COMMISSIONS

Looking for some cover art for a book? Character art? A portrait of your pet? I am open for commissions for 2025. Because I am also a writer, I only take five commissions per year. On average, a book cover takes me between 25-35 hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the scene. Because of this, my rates for a book cover will be significantly more than a pet portrait.

Custom Book Package is $1200. $100 non-refundable deposit required.
Color Pet Portraits are $500. $100 non-refundable deposit required.
B&W pet portrait is $300. $50 non-refundable deposit.

The Process

  1. Contact Me. Let’s discuss your project and schedule a one-on-one meeting. Just reach out via the Contact Me button in the top right corner. Feel free to give me some information about your project. If it’s a book cover, include the genre, rough synopsis, timeline, etc. I do require a non-refundable deposit. Once we lock in a start date and sign the contract, I’ll invoice the deposit.
  2. One-on-One. We’ll meet via Zoom and chat about your project one-on-one. If it’s a book cover, we’ll discuss your vision and needs, what’s needed to fit your book’s themes and genre, and you’ll get feedback on ways to amplify or simplify your cover and its impact.
  3. First Proof. The initial proof usually takes 4-5 days from the agreed upon start date.
  4. Revisions. I’ll send over the initial proof and at this point, you can suggest changes or tweaks you want. Not looking like you want it to? We can go in a different direction too. This portion can take several days between revisions depending upon the complexity of the changes.
  5. Final Payment. Once you’ve signed off on the revisions, I’ll issue a final invoice (sans deposit). I’ll get the high resolution file(s) ready and sent to you once the invoice is paid.

Typography?

You’ll notice that in the book cover package I don’t include typography, which is the title and text on the book cover. This is because typography is its own artistic skill and not one that I feel very accomplished in. If you want me to do a mockup of the typography, I can for an additional fee, but I feel you’d be better set going to a professional typographer for that step. In my packages, you are paying for the digitally painted art and the usage of it, which could include commercial usage (book cover, advertisements, website, etc.).

No-AI

I do not support the use of generative-AI in anything. I will not use AI during the brainstorming or creation/painting of whatever work I create for you. While I use my iPad to paint, every work I create is hand-painted stroke by stroke. My work is expensive because my time is valuable. I’m a firm believer in the idea that you get what you pay for.
